This poster design features a photograph of Disnie Sebastien, a New York-based actor, in Brooklyn, where I live. It is a still from "Butterflies," a Visible Poetry Project video I made with her in Gowanus. Other images include urban textures from Ocean Hill-Brownsville. There are the perhaps expected chainlink fences, bricks, and overgrown plants, but also seagulls, which are abundant here. Like the gulls, women's voices should fly.
